11-Year-Old Phenom: Olivia Wang Makes History at the 2026 ITTF Pan American Championships

Every so often, a talent emerges that captivates the entire table tennis world. At the 2026 ITTF Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru, that moment belonged to Canada’s own 11-year-old prodigy, Olivia Wang.

Stepping into the senior arena at the Villa Deportiva Nacional, Olivia arrived as the youngest competitor in the entire championship. Facing mature, seasoned international players, she showed poise, courage, and world-class technique far beyond her years.

In the Women's Singles Round of 64, Olivia delivered a sensational performance against D. Linares. Refusing to back down under the bright lights of the show court, she battled through tight deuce games and held her nerve in clutch moments to secure an unforgettable 4-1 victory (11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-6).

A Rapid Rise on the Continental Stage

For those following youth development in Canada, Olivia’s historic senior victory comes as no surprise:

• In 2025, she captured the continental spotlight by winning the ITTF-Americas Hopes Challenge (U12) in Antigua, Guatemala, following an intensive week of training.
• She went on to represent Canada on the global stage at the ITTF World Hopes Challenge, proving her skills against the very best young athletes worldwide.
• Later that year, she reached the podium at the Pan American U11 & U13 Championships, establishing herself as one of the most promising young table tennis athletes in the Americas.
• In 2026, Table Tennis Canada recognized her remarkable trajectory by naming her Female Junior Athlete of the Year.

Selected to Canada’s senior women’s national team in Lima alongside veteran Olympians like Mo Zhang, Sunny Zhang, and Katherine Morin, Olivia has already helped Canada secure a team bronze medal before claiming her first career senior singles win.
