An allround blade gives up some of the pace of an offensive frame in exchange for a wider margin: it is easier to keep the ball on the table, easier to block and push with, and more forgiving when timing is slightly off. That is what makes it the right blade while a stroke is still developing, and a perfectly good blade to keep afterwards.

It is also the more flexible base for a mixed setup, since it does not compound the speed of a fast rubber the way a stiff offensive blade does.
