Mo Zhang & Edward Ly Just Put on a Mixed Doubles Masterclass
Anyone who plays table tennis knows that doubles can be chaotic. You can take two incredible singles players, put them on the same side of the table, and watch them trip over each other’s footwork or misread the spin on the very first return.
When it works, though? There’s nothing better to watch.
That’s exactly what happened this week at the Pan American Championships down in Lima. Montreal’s own Edward Ly teamed up with veteran powerhouse Mo Zhang, and they didn’t just win the mixed doubles title—they made it look effortless.
Zero Sets Dropped. Not One.
To give you an idea of how dialed-in they were: Mo and Edward didn’t lose a single game the entire tournament. Every match was a clean 3–0 sweep, right through to the final against Brazil.
It broke a long gold-medal drought for Canada in this event, and with mixed doubles being an Olympic medal event, it’s a huge statement as the road to the 2028 Games in Los Angeles gets underway.
