An outdoor top is a weatherproof laminate or aluminium composite on a rust-treated frame, where an indoor top is chipboard or MDF and is ruined by damp. The trade is honest: an outdoor table plays slightly lower and slower than an indoor one of the same class. All-weather models sit between the two for anyone who wants one table to do both jobs.
Weatherproof is not maintenance-free. A cover keeps rain, grit and sunlight off the surface and frame between sessions and is the cheapest thing you can buy against the cost of the table. Outdoor play is harder on balls and bats too.
