Rubbers
Table tennis rubbers — the sheet that glues onto a blade and provides the playing surface. A rubber is a wearing part: the topsheet loses grip with use, so sheets are replaced periodically while the blade underneath stays. They are sold as single sheets, so a full racket needs two, and the two sides do not have to match.
Surface type is the biggest single difference, and the types are not comparable with each other. Inverted (pimple-in) rubbers present a smooth face and are what most players use for spin and speed. Short pips point outward and are less affected by incoming spin, which suits hitting and blocking close to the table. Long pips return spin in ways an opponent has to read, and belong to a deliberately disruptive style rather than a beginner's racket.
Sponge hardness sets how much the sheet does for you. A softer sponge grips at lower speeds and is more forgiving; a harder sponge stores more energy but needs a full stroke to activate, so it rewards technique rather than supplying it. Hardness is stated in degrees, but each manufacturer measures on its own scale — compare figures within a brand rather than across brands.
Thickness is chosen per sheet, usually between about 1.5 mm and MAX, and sometimes OX, which means no sponge at all. Thinner favours control and touch; thicker stores more energy. If you are choosing by intent rather than by number, start from offensive, allround or defensive sheets and read the specifications from there. You will also want glue to fit them and cleaner to keep them.

Butterfly Orthodox rubber is a quintessential hardbat rubber. Before the modern inverted sponge rubber existed, players used this short pips no sponge rubber (think classic "ping pong"). Due to the unique qualities, one must use a more open racket angle to use the style of rubber, as the surface does not grab the ball the way Sriver or Tenergy 05 does. However, this can also be an advantage against sponge rubber players, as your opponent may not be used to the spin or trajectory that is created by this style of rubber.

Impartial XS is a great rubber for the player that wants the best of both worlds. This rubber is a High-Tension short pips rubber, but it also has characteristics that make it similar to inverted rubber. In addition to having the High Tension technology in the top sheet, the pimple structure makes it easy to impart sharp topspin loops. With almost as much spin as Sriver, players can generate lots of spin while still being capable of the quintessential powerful drives that short pips are known for. Rubber Specifications
Impartial XB is a great option for the player that wants the best of both worlds. This new rubber uses a harder pimples structure, combined with the High Tension rubber. This results in an upgrade in both speed and spin from a classic short pips rubber sheet. Impartial XB supports passive block shots as well as offensive play focused on speed. Butterfly Ilius S is a completely new long pip top sheet with a brand new sponge. When long pips rubber has hard sponge, the pimples will bend more, thus greater effects will be obtained. Generally, the harder the sponge, the more difficult it is to control as the speed of the ball off the racket gets faster. However, Absorber Sponge Heavy absorbs the energy of the opponent's ball well even during hard impact, so you can have high stability while taking advantage of the long pimpled effect. In addition, the durability of the top sheet has more than doubled compared to the Feint Long III, which has a similar pimple shape. This is due to the compounds used to achieve durability whilst maintaining the performance of the rubber. The top sheet is rather hard with pimples whose aspect ratio is at the highest limit permitted to extract the features of the rubber. The combination of the top sheet and Absorber Sponge Heavy makes it easier to play a push stroke and to return an opponent's attack with a low defensive stroke with heavy spin or with minimal spin.
